April Stace, Ph.D., is an Episcopal priest, professional harpist, professor, author and composer whose work explores what happens when the stories we inherit about faith, relationships, identity, and a meaningful life stop being big enough for who we are becoming.

An Associate Professor of Practical Theology at The General Theological Seminary, April has spent more than two decades working at the intersection of spirituality and lived experience—as a pastor, hospital chaplain, scholar, teacher, and artist. Her writing and research push beyond easy answers, exploring everything from grief, death, and spiritual transformation to queer identity, nontraditional relationships, and the changing landscape of American religion.

She is the author of several books, including Secular Music, Sacred Space and the forthcoming Poly in the Pews: Reimagining Sex, Relationships, and What It Means to Be Faithful (Fortress Press, 2027), based on her research with polyamorous Christians. Her scholarship asks provocative questions about the assumptions hiding inside familiar religious ideas—and what might become possible when we examine them honestly.

April is also a lifelong harpist, composer, poet, and recording artist. Her newest project, Aphelion, is a musical memoir born from a season of divorce, an empty nest, solitude, and a solo train journey across the country. Through original music, poetry, storytelling, and visual art, the project explores the strange possibility that losing the life you expected can open the door to a life you couldn't yet imagine.

Whether she’s talking about spirituality, relationships, grief, creativity, midlife reinvention, or why a priest might find God just as readily in a concert hall as in a church, April brings intellectual depth, humor, vulnerability, and a willingness to ask the questions we’re often told not to ask.
