Entanglement
The final cd from Harp 46, Entanglement, was written and recorded with a 2-year-old Blue Vega running around (though mostly with his grandparents during work sessions.) Life had changed so much — Posido had found love with his future wife, the most amazing Amanda Lee Vega, Nuc and I were new parents living in Greenbelt, MD, Nuc was finishing his master's degree in jazz from University of Maryland, and I was just about to start my PhD program in Religion and Culture at Catholic University. And yet, the time seemed right for a new album.
Entanglement is probably our most experimental album. It begins with “Snakefish,” a song named for an unfortunate and rather enterprising pet one of our college roommates had, and features a track with Amanda on vocals, a couple with our friend Bonnie on violin, and even one with Nuc on the dulcimer (!) It is rife with odd time signatures and unexpected musical combinations, and symbolizes what the essence of Harp 46 always was for me: a place to try things out, to grow technically, to be playful, and to push the boundaries of what our respective instruments could do.
