BIO:
At the age of 3, April saw a harpist performing in a restaurant, and decided she wanted to learn to play the instrument. Coming from a musical family where both parents are musicians, the support and encouragement for her to follow the dream were cemented very early age.
At age 7, April began studying the harp and began playing professionally at age 12. She went on to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Harp performance at the University of Maryland, where she studied with Rebecca Anstine Smith and Alice Chalifoux.
After college, April developed a greater interest in the celtic or "folk" harp. She has been a featured performer at gatherings across the country, including the Emergent conventions, the Northwest Folklife Festival, the Takoma Park Jazz festival, and Seattle's beloved "Bumbershoot" festival. Her cds, recorded with her band Harp 46, have both reached the top ten on the New Age radio charts.
April's unique background with harp makes it possible for her to weave in and out of many styles of music with ease. She is at home in the worlds of classical music, pop music, celtic and folk music, and jazz. She has been performing in the Washington, DC area since 1997. |
